Graduate Assistant for MSW Department Chair
Part-time (10 hours per week)
Primary Purpose
Under the guidance and supervision of the MSW Department Chair, the Graduate Assistant will assist the MSW Department Chairperson in program administration, the development, and coordination of extracurricular initiatives sponsored by the MSW program. The MSW Graduate Assistant will also provide administrative support relating to course scheduling, and the MSW lending library. This will be an opportunity for the Graduate Assistant to gain insight into the administrative function of the MSW program.
Duties and Responsibilities
- A work schedule of 10 hours per week
- Assist Faculty member with research and scholarship projects
- Coordinate extracurricular program events relating to areas of social work specialization, as well as pressing social policy topics. This work will include identifying and contacting speakers for panels, roundtables, and networking events designed to meet the needs of students, alumni, potential students, and the public.
- Assist with the writing of funding requests to support these events
- Provide administrative support relating to course scheduling, student study sessions, and the MSW lending library
- Participate and assist the Chair in the re-affirmation process
- Assist the Director of Admissions as needed, including attending graduate fairs
- Act as a liaison between the Department Chair's office and MSWSO
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- MSW students in good academic standing
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Good written and oral communication skills; Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently; Receive and make use of constructive feedback
- Computer skills- Microsoft Office software (ability to conduct online research)

- Knowledge of areas of social work specialization and current social policy issues
- Networking with professionals and professional networks in social work
- Experience with project management, problem-solving skills, writing funding requests, and verbal and written communication skills.
- Learn the process of reaffirmation of the MSW program and participate in the self-study process.
